Stuart A. Thompson of the New York Times is moving to the technology news team to cover disinformation.

“Ultimately this was the right time for me to dive into a new role with a narrower focus, covering a topic that I am increasingly obsessed with,” he wrote on Twitter. “The chance to focus on beat reporting and writing, while also deploying the other tools in my toolkit, was an attractive proposal.”

Thompson a currently a writer and editor in the Opinion section. He works as the head of Opinion’s visual journalism department, focusing on telling stories in new ways using data and visuals. His most recent work has focused on technology, privacy and politics.

Previously, he worked as the graphics director at The Wall Street Journal, where he was part of a large team that won the Pulitzer Prize for the series “Medicare Unmasked.”

In 2018, he was on a team of Pulitzer Prize finalists for a series on domestic gun violence called “The Home Front.”
