Business Insider’s big expansion plans

business_insider_logobusiness_insider_logoJoe Pompeo of Politico writes about Business Insider‘s expansion plans.

Pompeo writes, “There are now about 350 full-time employees in the joint, most of them in New York, others scattered between London, Chicago, San Francisco and a few random U.S. states here are there; 200 of those work in editorial. The plan is to add another 100 to 200 people per year over the next five years, president and chief operating officer Julie Hansen revealed to POLITICO.

“Having already created an owned-and-operated British site and licensed editions for Australia, India, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore, Business Insider is continuing its international march with a German site that is scheduled to launch in November, followed over the next six months by Business Insiders in Poland, France and an additional country where the ink hasn’t quite dried, said Hansen. She said there are ‘active talks’ in four additional countries, declining to name them, but hinting, ‘We’d like to be in Hong Kong.’

“These sites, which pay to use Business Insider’s name but operate independently, represent a growing pool of licensing revenue that Hansen said was still too nascent to provide numbers for.”
