Crain’s city publications seek a data editor

Crain Communications is seeking a meticulous and analytical data editor to oversee the strategy and execution of our lists and data offerings across our regional business publications: Crain’s Chicago Business, Crain’s Cleveland Business, Crain’s Detroit Business, Crain’s Grand Rapids Business and Crain’s New York Business. This role will be critical in transforming our comprehensive databases, as well as our signature lists – such as the area’s largest privately held businesses and fastest-growing companies – into premium digital offerings.

As a data editor, you will report to the director of audience engagement, working closely to develop and implement best practices in data collection, digital publishing and audience engagement strategies. You will manage a small team of researchers while also contributing directly through your own research.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee data collection, surveys and database management processes
  • Identify newsworthy insights within data and develop engaging ways to present these findings to our audience
  • Manage a small team of researchers, emphasizing accuracy, timeliness and relevance.
  • Collaborate with newsroom editors and the audience engagement team to ensure data products meet the informational needs of our readers

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of three years of newsroom or data-related experience
  • Exceptional analytical and critical thinking skills with a meticulous approach to data collection and curation
  • Experience managing surveys, research projects and databases
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills
  • Familiarity with Legendary Data or a similar survey tool is a plus

This position is exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act and is not eligible for overtime pay.

Pay Transparency Disclosure:

The estimated salary range for this position is $65,000 to $75,000.

The final salary offering will take into account a wide range of factors, including experience, accomplishments and location. The salary range provided should not be considered as a salary limit or cap. In addition to base salary, Crain also offers competitive benefits including retirement plan savings contributions and bonus opportunities based on individual and company performance.
