Bloomberg hires energy reporter from Houston Chronicle

Harry R. Weber, who made a name for himself by covering the BP oil spill, has left his job as an energy reporter for the Houston Chronicle after working there for slightly less than a year.

On Monday, he will join Bloomberg News as an energy reporter and will work on the markets team. He will remain based in Houston.

Weber worked for The Associated Press for 12 years covering business news and other subjects before joining the Chronicle. While at the AP, Harry was assigned to mentor other reporters, providing coaching, assistance, career support and at times supervision. Prior to AP, Harry worked for four years as a reporter at two daily newspapers in the Boston area.

In his 12 years sinat the AP, Weber covered everything from the 2001 slayings of two Dartmouth professors that stunned rural northern New England to the case of Brian Nichols who escaped from a courthouse while on trial and shot and killed four people, three of them inside the courtroom. He also covered the airling industry.

Weber is a graduate of Columbia University. He is also a George Polk Award winner for environmental reporting.

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
