AME Damato among those cut at Money

Karen Damato

Money assistant managing editor Karen Damato was among those cut by Time Inc. earlier this week as part of its initiative to lop 300 jobs from its payroll.

Damato had joined Money in July 2016 from The Wall Street Journal, where she held a variety of high-level positions.

“It was an honor and fabulous opportunity to be hired last year by then-editor Diane Harris as a member of her editing team at Money,” said Damato in an email to Talking Biz News.

“I’m sorry my story there doesn’t have a happier ending. But I got to know and work alongside great reporters and editors doing excellent work in delivering truly useful personal finance advice for individuals.”

At Money, she directed retirement coverage for the print magazine and Money.com, working with staff writers and freelancers as well as doing some writing herself. She also wrote and edited stories on a range of other personal finance topics and recently had been writing the weekly “Retire with Money” newsletter.

Her editing roles at the Journal included serving as Wealth editor, a deputy personal finance editor, and as the news editor overseeing the monthly Investing in Funds & ETFs reports. She worked at the Journal for 32 years.
