WSJ makes changes to financial coverage

Wall Street Journal financial editor Dennis Berman sent out the following announcement on Wednesday:

First a big congratulations to Serena Ng for her promotion to run finance coverage in Asia. We will miss her immensely here in New York, but have great expectations for her work in Hong Kong. No one knows finance better than Serena.

Big congratulations are also due for our Deals Deputy Editor Marie Beaudette, who has been promoted to News Editor for News Operations and Change Leadership. Marie has been a rock for our deals coverage. Her knowledge of the topic — and always-steady editing hand — has been a special part of M&I.

Another special congratulations to Matt Jarzemsky, who will be leaving the Journal in August to complete a Knight-Bagehot fellowship at Columbia. Matt’s work on deals, private equity and restructuring has been an asset to the Journal, and we look forward to seeing where his next adventures take him.

Marie’s replacement is Nate Becker, currently the Deputy Digital Partner for our Business coverage. Nate is a whiz at breaking news and understanding a range of industries and business topics. Nate hails from Missouri and Truman State University, started as a Dow Jones News Fund intern and is a Knight-Bagehot fellow. Be sure to ask him about his days as a drummer in a rock band.

We’re also pleased to welcome Aaron Kuriloff to the editing ranks, who will be working with our markets reporters. Aaron has covered U.S. stocks and investing for the Journal through last winter’s selloff, Brexit and the U.S. election. Prior to joining the Journal, he worked as a reporter at Bloomberg News and The Times-Picayune in New Orleans. The Philadelphia native graduated from Brown University and the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. He is also a sailing coach.

In the reporting ranks, Cezary Podkul is joining our staff in July. Cezary is currently a reporter at ProPublica and has also worked at Reuters. Cezary’s work is of great distinction, having documented a large dividend-tax evasion scheme in Europe, and misdoings by thousands of landlords in New York City rental apartments. He won SABEW’s 2015 honor as the best business journalist under 30 and is adept with data visualization, having earned a degree from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School. He spent a brief spell on Wall Street as an analyst in the middle of the financial crisis. Oh, and he also has a degree in Philosophy. Cezary will be joining the enterprise team lead by David Enrich.
