Lachlan Cartwright of Breaker writes about the challenge facing Wall Street Journal editor in chief Emma Tucker, who needs to replace Marie Beaudette, a top editor leaving for CNN.

Cartwright writes, “Tucker has a few options. There is the extremely talented former FT journalist, David Crow, who joined WSJ as their executive editor in 2023, waiting in the wings. Journal staff tell Breaker that Tucker could do worse than to parachute Crow in as Forelle’s replacement.

“And then there’s the matter of the gaping hole Beaudette leaves behind; finding someone to manage the triple threat business, finance, and economic portfolio will take time.

“Marcelo Prince, currently Enterprise Editor for Beaudette’s soon-to-be former fiefdom, is seen as a safe pair of hands. Economics Editor Tammy Audi is also highly thought of by colleagues.

“But don’t expect Tucker to move quickly. The process to replace former business editor Jamie Heller, who departed to be Editor in Chief of Business Insider last September, was incredibly slow and involved a number of outside candidates being interviewed.”
