Crain’s Detroit Business senior editor Chad Livengood has been hired by the Detroit News to be its politics editor and columnist.
He will start on May 23. His last day at Crain’s Detroit is May 18.
Livengood has been covering the multifaceted story of Detroit and Michigan politics. He previously was the Lansing bureau chief of the News, where he covered the governor, state agencies, the Legislature and presidential politics for Michigan’s second-largest paper.
Livengood was a key player in the newspaper’s coverage of the Detroit bankruptcy from July 2013 to December 2014, specializing in the financial issues at the center of the legal battle. He also covered the water crisis in Flint.
He previously worked at the Springfield News-Leader and the Wilmington News Journal in Delaware.
