The following excerpt was sent out from The Washington Post’s national editor Matea Gold, deputy national Editor Philip Rucker, health and science editor Stephen Smith and deputy health and science editors Carol Eisenberg, Katie Zezima and Tracy Jan:
We are delighted to announce that Sabrina Malhi is joining the Health and Science team as lead writer for the coronavirus newsletter with a mission of building on that successful franchise, which has provided indispensable coverage of the pandemic since 2020. She will also report on other health and science news.
Sabrina joins the National Desk after a successful stint as a multiplatform editor for Post Opinions, where she hosted a monthly show on Post Opinion’s Instagram account. She brings to her new role a passion for making complex information about health and medicine accessible and an affinity for creative forms of storytelling.
Before joining The Post in 2020, Sabrina spent four years as an assignment editor at the Hill, helping shape coverage of health, technology, politics and global issues. She also covered news, including the 2017 Virginia governor’s race and election protests. Earlier, Sabrina was a reporter and video creator for the Newsweek Group, covering health, medicine and wellness, and worked as a research editor at Self magazine. She wrote on health, nutrition and beauty for Medical Daily.
She has a bachelor’s degree in English literature from the University at Buffalo and a master’s degree in journalism from New York University. Sabrina is president of the South Asian Journalists Association.
Please join us in congratulating Sabrina on her new role, which begins Aug. 22.
