The Associate Editor is a critical player in planning and producing the weekly print product, and contributes to both weekly and daily publishing cycles in multiple ways: helping plan and execute special publications and special reports; content and copy editing, recruiting and coordinating with freelancers, and serving as a backup for others on the editing team.
The Associate Editor is able to effectively reformat, reuse, reshape and rewrite, when necessary, digital content for the weekly print product, using innovative storytelling, inventive layouts, and ambitious concepts. The Associate Editor also is charged with merging weekly specially themed sections with the core weekly print product and digital content.
The Associate Editor also may serve as the editorial department’s liaison with other departments in matters that pertain to awards publications, events, and other cross-departmental activities.
– Conceive of and execute the production of special publications and focus sections.
– Source and coordinate with freelancers in the production of business journal content.
– Gather, format and repurpose online content for print.
– Edit and proof copy for content.
– Edit and proof copy for style, clarity, spelling, grammar, consistency, context and accuracy.
– As called upon, contribute to editing of news items throughout the day for the Business Journal’s digital platforms.
– Take the lead in managing awards publication production, including outreach to judges and awardees, if necessary.
– Write headlines, sub-heads, and cutlines, and other informational or graphics copy. As with all copy, the Business Journal’s goal is 100 percent accuracy.
– Perform variety of news, production and administrative duties.
– Regularly participate in and attend Business Journal sponsored events.
– Take on any other assignment made by manager(s).
– Work cooperatively and collaboratively with all colleagues and professionally with sources.
