New York Times editorial page editor James Bennet sent out the following announcement on Tuesday:

Hi all,

We’re delighted to announce that Greg Bensinger will join Times Opinion as a writer covering technology and a member of the editorial board.

Greg joins us from The Washington Post’s San Francisco bureau, where he covered Google, artificial intelligence and algorithms. His stories included a deep dive into how Uber’s investigations team puts the company ahead of passenger safety, the gamification of Amazon warehouses and a profile of a hearty few holdouts who try to avoid using Google services altogether.

For eight years before that, Greg worked in New York and San Francisco for The Wall Street Journal, tracking Uber, Amazon and the rise of e-commerce. He also spent six years at Bloomberg News covering the U.S. auto and wireless industries. He was among the first journalists to detail the full scope of Amazon’s ambitions in building out its own delivery network.

A native of Seattle, Greg is a graduate of the University of Virginia and Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. He is still anxiously awaiting the return of the SuperSonics basketball team.

Greg will start in early March. He will be based in San Francisco. Please join us in welcoming him to Opinion.
