Andy Giegerich, managing editor of the Portland Business Journal, remembers Kristina Brenneman, a former Business Journal reporter who recently died.

Giegerich writes, “For those flipping through our pages or scrolling our site, bylines, or the names of writers, tend to come and go. Kris had worked in the newsletter world before joining the PBJ newsroom. When I was hired in 1999, I’d joined a tight-knit group that played softball, gathered often after hours to deconstruct that week’s paper and frequently attended music shows together.

“As we remember Kris, we’ll bring up her doggedness in chasing stories. She was also fearless, possessing the gene that good newspaper people have that makes them unafraid to ask tough questions and tackle difficult stories. She was also a great writer, her columns about media personnel and trends drawing attention from corner offices of the city’s television and radio stations.

“When checking to see how long she’d worked at the PBJ (mid-1999 to late 2001), I was stunned to discover she’d only arrived a few months before I did. From this very seat facing Fox Tower, she had incredible grace and enough command of her beats that I’d guessed she’d been here at least three years.”
