Lois Romano of Politico profiles Patricia Sellers, Fortune’s senior editor at large and a formidable player in the world of business journalism.
Romano writes, “She is on a first-name basis with every female corporate powerhouse in the country and offers a blunt assessment of why more talented women are not at the top of the ladder. ‘I think Sheryl Sandberg is very right when she says that women do not lean in enough to their careers,’ Sellers told me as her conference was getting underway. ‘Women just don’t take as many risks.’
“Sellers, 54, helped create Fortune’s female power list in the late 1990s, when women were just starting to emerge professionally. The first MPW cover featured a little-known executive named Carly Fiorina.
“Fast forward to 2104: The MPW brand and summit have become a magnet for the ambitious, emerging and established. This week, some 400 women (and two men) are listening to speakers such as Warren Buffett, IBM Chairman and CEO Ginni Rometty, actress Gwyneth Paltrow and Facebook’s Sandberg.
“Sellers grew up in Allentown, Pennsylvania, and graduated from the University of Virginia. Her first job was at The Washington Business Journal.”
