The Portland Business Journal added a page to its website for its ongoing coverage of the footwear and apparel deals between universities and sneaker giants.
Matthew Kish of the paper writes, “The page will house the Business Journal’s database of contracts between athletic departments and sportswear giants, including Nike, Adidas and Under Armour. The database has been cited by numerous media outlets since it first appeared in December 2013. It was the subject of an academic paper presented Wednesday at the annual conference of the Sport Marketing Association.
“The page will feature the Business Journal’s most in-depth reporting on the issue and interactive features.
“The Business Journal’s print coverage has looked at the red flags raised by university footwear deals, the influence of sneaker companies and whether the deals unfairly push smaller companies aside.
“Future reporting on the issue will appear simultaneously on the Business Journal’s website and the new page.”
