Sherry Jones, the metro editor of the Wilmington Star-News in North Carolina, writes about the paper’s decision to expand its business news coverage.
Jones writes, “Earlier this year, we held reader input forums and you told us that you’re interested in local business news. In September, a group of editors and reporters developed a plan for enhancing our coverage in this area.
“The plan included clearly defining what our reporters cover, weekly and daily planning for stories with a business angle, developing relationships with businesses and more promotion of local business stories. The plan also involved revamping our business blog, the Biz Picture.
“In addition to doubling local business stories/briefs on the Money pages from August to October, page views for the Biz Picture blog more than tripled from September to October. We’re also routinely running business stories on the front page and the front of the Local & State section.
“You said you wanted more local business news. You got it.”
