Nashville Biz Journal punches above its weight

Lori Becker, the editor of the Nashville Business Journal, writes about the paper’s editorial staff.’

Becker writes, “I’m often asked how many people work in the Nashville Business Journal newsroom. And readers are usually surprised when I say 10.

“We definitely punch above our weight. It’s all about teamwork. There’s no other way we could produce the market intelligence our readers expect.

“I was reminded of how powerful that can be last week. The Nashville Business Journal was recognized as one of the best business journalism publications in the country.

“On Friday, the Society of American Business Editors and Writers announced the 2016 winners for its Best in Business awards, recognizing the best business journalism in the country. The NBJ received an Honorable Mention for General Excellence — essentially the runner-up prize in the marquee category that highlights publications for producing top-quality work in a variety of measures, from breaking news to data projects to visual storytelling.

“Six publications were recognized nationally for general excellence, divided into categories by publication size, and we were humbled to be among them.”
