Tiffany Pham interviewed Fox Business Network anchor Maria Bartiromo about her career and her success for Forbes.com.

Tiffany Pham: What inspired you to pursue a career in journalism, particularly with a business and economic focus?
Maria Bartiromo: I had been studying business and economics at NYU because it came easy to me. I was doing well in it so I pursued it, not really knowing what I wanted to do. Then when I was a junior in college, my mom mentioned journalism and said she thought I would be good at it. She convinced me to try journalism. I absolutely loved it, but I had so much business and economics background because that was my major, so I made it a minor, not really having a plan to do this. Then, when I started looking for a job, I realized idea of ‘business television’ as an industry was in its infancy and it was a growing field. CNN had two business programs and CNBC was just starting out, so it was the beginning of a new industry and I just so happened to be very well positioned for it.
