Columbia Tribune hires Joens as a business reporter

Philip Joens has been hired by the Columbia Tribune newspaper in Missouri as a business reporter.

Joens is currently a business reporter at the Jefferson City News Tribune, covering politics, agriculture, energy, tech, startups, retail, construction, housing, and other general assignment stories including sports, education and health care.

He previously was a tech editor and reporter at the Pacific Coast Business Times in Santa Barbara, California.

Joens is a University of Missouri graduate. While in school, he worked for the Los Angeles Business Journal and Missouri Business Alert.

Chris Roush

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
