Business journalist Hope King has started a newsletter called “Unemployed Together.”
The newsletter will include job openings and sponsor tips.
In an email, King writes:
Each week I’ll be publishing personal stories from people who lost their jobs — but this isn’t a doom and gloom endeavor. The stories will demonstrate the resilience and perseverance of each person. I conduct each interview by phone and write the stories in first person.
My goal is to interview as many people as possible, and to deliver ‘unemployed together’ as an archive for the Library of Congress. Anyone who wants to look back and remember what people around the country experienced during this time will have one place to go.
In addition to the weekly interviews, I’ll also be publishing daily news and insights into the jobs market. Who’s hiring? Who’s not? Which industries are growing? Which are shrinking? In the future, look out for interviews with hiring managers, CEOs, and people who can impact the jobs market.
The cornerstone of ‘unemployed together’ is to give people hope about their economic future. Whether someone is unemployed, underemployed, or career-curious, I hope to help visitors make sense of headline numbers and business stories. Because of this unique mix of archival storytelling and current news analysis, the project is intended for a wide audience.
King left business news streaming service Cheddar in May 2020 after being there for four years.
She joined in October 2016 from CNN, where she was a tech reporter, to help launch its closing bell show.
She also worked at Business Insider. Before journalism, King worked at Merrill Lynch, where she was vice president of business development and product management.
