New York Times technology reporter Tripp Mickle is taking on the Google and Alphabet beat at the paper in the wake of the departure of Nico Grant.
He will continue to cover Apple until a replacement for that beat is found.
Mickle joined the Times three years ago after eight years of writing about Apple, Google, bourbon and beer for The Wall Street Journal. He is the author of “After Steve: How Apple Became a Trillion-Dollar Company and Lost Its Soul,” the inside story of the unspoken power struggle between Tim Cook and head designer Jony Ive after the death of Steve Jobs.
Before The Journal, Mickle spent eight years covering the Olympics for SportsBusiness Journal. He also interned as a sportswriter at Newsday.
He is a graduate of Wake Forest University and the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.
