Wall Street Journal reporter Laine Higgins is leaving the newspaper to attend graduate school at Columbia University, where she will pursue a Master of Fine Arts in creative writing.
She has been primarily covering college sports in New York. Her coverage centers on the NCAA, both the results on the field and the ways the association is navigating this period of dramatic transformation.
Higgins also writes about hockey and a variety of Olympic sports, including swimming and endurance running, and takes a particular interest in issues affecting women athletes.
Higgins joined the Journal in 2017 to cover sports and previously worked as a reporting assistant for Exchange, the weekend business and finance section. She grew up in Minneapolis and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania, where she was captain of the varsity women’s swim team.
