After 11 years at Fortune, @Matt Heimer has decided to depart in June to take up a new career. If you’ve gotten to work closely with Matt, his next chapter may not surprise you: he’s headed to graduate school to become a therapist. I’ve already called dibs on becoming his first patient.
It’s hard to put into words how exceptional Matt is – as a journalist and as a person. He is selfless, team-oriented, and a business mastermind who guides stories with deep insight, historical knowledge, and plenty of humor. His steady hand on our 96-year-old print magazine has made it smarter, stronger, and full of journalism that encapsulates major moments in business.
Fortunately, we have a deep bench of exceptional editors. Matt’s team will move under @Lee Clifford‘s direction to further unify our newsroom under our core business and leadership coverage areas. I’ll also be recruiting for Matt’s replacement in NYC to build on the foundation he built. Print and high-quality journalism remain priorities for us; they’re important differentiators in our mission to be the most trusted, indispensable resource for top global executives.
A sincere thank you to Matt for everything he has done for all of us – especially me – during his time here as a superb leader, editor, sounding board and friend. We’ll be hosting a celebration of Matt’s awesomeness after the May magazine close.
