CNBC editor-in-chief Dave Cho and CNBC’s managing editor of digital and editorial strategy Ken Brown sent to the team this morning:
Team,
We’re excited to announce that Cory Schouten will be joining CNBC as Director of Member Strategy and Engagement, reporting to Ken.
As we continue to evolve our subscription business and create a more dynamic, personalized experience for members, Cory will play an important role in developing new ways for subscribers to connect with CNBC and our journalism, while helping us better understand how we can serve members across our products. He will work closely with the editorial and product teams to shape how we engage members, build loyalty and create a trusted destination for thoughtful conversation around the stories and topics our audience cares about most.
Cory brings deep experience at the intersection of journalism, audience strategy and newsroom leadership. Most recently, he served as Editor-in-Chief of Crain’s New York Business, where he led the newsroom, sharpened coverage priorities and developed a more data-driven approach to audience strategy. During his tenure, Crain’s earned a number of awards for its news coverage and special projects.
Previously, Cory held several roles at The Wall Street Journal focused on developing new ways to serve and engage readers. As head of new formats, he worked on newsletters, alerts and live experiences, including a Q&A format that paired video with subscriber questions. Earlier, he led an overhaul of the Journal’s newsletter portfolio and its approach to reader comments.
Cory also teaches a well-regarded business of media class as an adjunct professor at Columbia University. He was a Knight-Bagehot Fellow at Columbia, where he earned a master’s degree in economics and business journalism. He received his bachelor’s degree from Indiana University Bloomington, where he served as editor-in-chief of the Indiana Daily Student.
With his background in audience engagement and infectious enthusiasm for great journalism, Cory is a natural fit for where CNBC is headed and the subscriber experience we’re building.
Please join us in welcoming Cory to CNBC when he starts on September 1.
