Business Insider editor in chief Jamie Heller sent out the following on Monday:
I’m thrilled to announce that Kate Ortega is joining our newsroom as Director of Operations.
Kate is a seasoned news pro who recently served as Assistant Managing Editor for newsroom operations for six years at The Wall Street Journal. In that role, Kate strove to provide journalists with the support, tools, and setup they needed to do their job, wherever in the world they were doing it. She helped ensure the safety of reporters on higher-risk assignments. She solved problems large and small, every day.
Effective and fair-minded, Kate is passionate about the crucial part she plays in a newsroom. Kate also happens to be a superb editor.
A 25-year WSJ veteran, Kate is also on the board of Pro News Coaches, a group of Journal alums that provides pro bono editing and coaching for local U.S. newsrooms. She lives in Brooklyn with her husband and daughter.
I am confident Kate will play a critical role in our success as we evolve and reach new heights.
She will start on December 2 and report to Julie Zeveloff.
