The 19th has hired Mel Leonor Barclay and Grace Panetta as reporters on the politics team. Barclay covered Virginia politics for the Richmond Times-Dispatch. Previously, she interned at the South Florida Sun Sentinel and Miami Herald.
She worked at the Naples Daily News and Politico. Currently, she is writing a newsletter for States Newsroom about abortion policy through the states. Barclay, who has a B.S. from Florida International University, will join on Nov. 7.
Recently, Panetta was a senior politics reporter at Business Insider, where she also held the posts of politics reporter and politics editorial fellow.
She appeared on MSNBC, Fox 5 DC, Cheddar, SiriusXM, WYNC’s “The Takeaway,” iHeart Radio, and Georgia Public Broadcasting to discuss her work. Panetta holds a degree in political science from Barnard College and a graduate certificate in election administration from the Humphrey School of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota.
Panetta started on Oct. 3.
