NY Times wins five Online Journalism Awards

The New York Times received five Online Journalism Awards and had six finalists, with the awards being given by the Online News Association.

“This list of well-deserved winners shows the consistent journalistic strength that runs across so many different kinds of stories,” NYT assistant masthead editor Steve Duenes said. “The shape of each of these projects is just right, and the variety on the list is really representative of the digital range that The Times produces routinely.”

The Times won in the following categories:

  • Received the Knight Award for Public Service.
  • From Culture, Video and Graphics, in the medium-form Digital Video Storytelling category.
  • For Excellence in Immersive Storytelling.
  • Online Commentary.

A series from the Visual Investigations team won the Al Neuharth Innovation in Investigative Journalism Award.

The finalists were:

  • From Graphics, Design and Photo in the Excellence and Innovation in Visual Digital Storytelling category.
  • The Times Race/Related newsletter, a joint entry with the Marshall Project, in the Excellence in Newsletters category.
  • A package that focused on visualizing the coronavirus outbreak, in the Explanatory Reporting category.
  • From the medium-form Digital Video Storytelling category.
  • From the Feature category.
  • For the University of Florida Award for Investigative Data Journalism.
