NY Times appoints Matiash as senior editor of digital transition strategy

Chelsea Matiash, who joined The New York Times Newsroom and Development team in 2018 is now formally part of the leadership team after being promoted to senior editor of digital transition strategy.

In this role, Matiash will continue to move work forward by leading a pod of editors with a focus on visuals, and she will expand the strategic focus of her work by partnering with Product on the development of new tools.

Matiash has also worked as an adjunct professor at The King’s College and was a senior photo editor at The Intercept. She was also deputy multimedia editor at Time Magazine and has worked as a producer at Eddie Adams Workshop.

She has also served as a photo editor at The Wall Street Journal, the Associated Press and South Florida Sun Sentinel. She was also a photographer/videographer at South Florida Sun Sentinel. She was also editor-in-chief of The Miami Hurricane.

Matiash has also worked as a photography and design intern at Straus Newspapers.

Matiash is an alumna of the Poynter Leadership Academy for Women in Media. She also serves on the board of the Newswomen’s Club of NY and was previously on the executive board of directors of the National Press Photographers Association.

Matiash holds a Bachelor’s degree in communication, visual journalism and art history from the University of Miami.
