ABC News has named Kimberly Godwin its president, replacing James Goldston, who left the network last month.
In her new role, Godwin will oversee editorial and business operations for broadcast, digital, streaming and audio news across the organization. She will also be overseeing the top programs, including “Good Morning America.”
She will be reporting to Peter Rice, chairman of Disney General Entertainment Content.
Godwin joins from CBS News where she held the post of executive vice president. She has also served as a senior producer, senior broadcast producer and vice president of news/executive director for development and diversity since joining the network in 2007.
She has also worked as an interim news director/assistant news director at WCBS | CBS New York. She was also an adjunct professor of media ethics and then served as director, division of journalism at Florida A&M University.
She has also worked as VP, news director and VP, news operations at NBC News. She was also a news director at WOIO/WUAB. Before that, she served as a senior news producer, then as an executive producer and then as an assistant news director at NBC News.
Godwin has won six National News and Documentary Emmy Awards, two Edward R. Murrow Awards, an Alfred I. DuPont-Columbia Award and a Sigma Delta Chi Award. She is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists, which also honored her with its prestigious Ida B. Wells Award last November.
She is also on the chair of the board of visitors at Florida A&M University’s journalism school.
Godwin is a B.S. in journalism from Florida A&M University.
