Yahoo Finance seeks personal finance reporter

Yahoo Finance is looking for a bright, high-energy personality with deep knowledge of finance to bring a unique flair to personal finance.

We are not looking for a run-of-the-mill writer just offering tips on how to pinch pennies. We are looking for someone who understands how personal finance can work in the rapidly evolving, interconnected world that is affected by unconventional monetary policy, global trade, international politics and anything else that affects our savings and investments.

The candidate will be able to write and speak intelligently about personal finance, financial markets, economics, politics, technology, and general news. The ideal candidate will be able to synthesize important topics into a narrative that captures the big picture in a way that everyone can understand.

We are looking for a dynamic talent with the capacity to cover and comment on all aspects of finance ranging from breaking news, management personalities, economic policy, technology trends, business strategy, and anything else that might be of importance and interest to our readers. We are looking for creative takes and angles on the most important topics.

Critically, the candidate must have the ability to communicate it ON AIR to a broad consumer audience. The ideal candidate will have experience working in a fast-paced digital news environment, where she/he will be scouring social sources to cover trending and topical stories. Familiarity in digital sources like social media is a must. Multimedia skills is a plus. This position will be based in New York reporting into Yahoo Finance.

Candidates must be comfortable working across multiple teams and coordinating with strategic partners in a dynamic environment. Candidates must have superior communication skills, impeccable news judgment, and the ability to make high-stakes decisions quickly and clearly.

Responsibilities:
Report, write, and speak on all current financial news topics
Work on conceiving and executing video pieces
Help Yahoo Finance execute on overall coverage

Minimum Requirements:
3-5 years experience in online media or journalism
Track record of success in a fast-paced news environment
Excellent news judgment and a passion for and knowledge of social news tools and channels
Superior communication skills and an ability to work collaboratively with multiple teams
Comprehensive understanding of editorial best practices and a hunter mentality to identify high-profile and high-utility news and social content.

He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
