WNYC seeks Wall Street reporter

WNYC seeks an accomplished investigative reporter with bracing narrative skills to shine a light on Wall Street, the financial industry and the convergence of money, power and politics.  In addition to producing original, in-depth reporting that holds individuals and institutions accountable, this person will provide analysis about major developments on this beat for WNYC programs and podcasts.

The ideal candidate will be a terrific storyteller who is fascinated by how Wall Street works and wants to expose how it influences the economy, politics and society. He or she will be skilled at digging through data and research, writing compelling scripts that have personality, and gathering memorable tape from colorful characters. She or he will present these stories across WNYC’s platforms with a unique personality.

Successful candidates will have produced original, significant journalism and demonstrated a sophisticated understanding and curiosity about the world of finance. He or she will also demonstrate a willingness to experiment with new reporting tools and new ways of telling stories on every platform – the radio, the Web and social media – and has a track record of creating compelling stories that engage audiences and have an impact on the financial industry and public policy. This person reports to the Business Editor.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Report original, investigative features and news exclusives about Wall Street and finance.
• Craft compelling radio features and long-form stories for podcasts on this subject.
• Write and produce content for website.
• Make regular appearances on WNYC talk shows.
• Produce live news reports for radio and digital media.
• Represent WNYC credibly on other media platforms.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Minimum five years professional journalism experience; some radio/podcast reporting experience preferred.
• Track record of reporting original, investigative features that have impact.
• Wall Street, finance, business reporting experience strongly preferred.
• Ability to manage several projects concurrently and work collaboratively within WNYC and other partner news organizations.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
