Wichita Business Journal seeks reporter

The Wichita Business Journal is looking for a reporter who can develop sources, find scoops and crunch data for stories relevant and useful to the Wichita business community. He or she should also know how to use social media to get sources and stories. We’re looking for an assertive, dynamic, competitive journalist who will thrive as part of an award-winning team.

Duties

Create daily scoops for our website, thoughtful, longer-form pieces for our weekly print edition and interesting profiles for special publications. Contribute content for all platforms, including video and podcasts. Work collaboratively with other newsroom staffers to maximize impact and accessibility of stories reported. Meet or exceed goals related to audience engagement.

Skills

Proven ability in reporting and writing. Ability to work independently and remotely, to break news and to identify newsworthy events and sources. Strong analytical and investigative-interviewing skills.

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
