Vacaville Reporter seeks a general assignment/sports reporter

The Vacaville Reporter is looking for a staff reporter whose duties will be split between covering local sports and local news.  Will report on various activities and people within the Vacaville and Solano County community.

What you will do:

  • Primary responsibility is reporting at least two byline stories per day on sports and news topics
  • Working cooperatively with our small team or journalists

What you will bring:

  • Journalism experience, AP style knowledge and the ability to quickly compile accurate reporting on a variety of topics; spelling and grammar skills required
  • Experience working with various technologies for the position including PC laptops, digital cameras and recording equipment
  • Good people skills are necessary for conducting interviews with sources
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; experience in a professional journalism newsroom preferred

Travel:

  • Some required to cover assignments within readership area
  • Position is currently remote work
  • Driving to cover stories is occasionally required

The Vacaville Reporter, a subsidiary of MediaNews Group,  is a newspaper in the town of Vacaville, California. It also covers surrounding Solano County, California, including Fairfield, California and Dixon, California.

Salary: The hourly wage is $16.00. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, time in role, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, MediaNews Group offers a comprehensive benefits package, and 401K plan (all benefits are based on eligibility).
