The reporter should have experience navigating financial reports and understand how the information contained in those documents, combined with insightful interviews, can be used to develop strong stories. And to land those interviews, the reporter should have experience building strong relationships with sources.
The candidate also should be able to identify trends and explain to the reader how those will shape local businesses and impact consumers. From breaking news to enterprise stories, the business writer should be able to react quickly while being self-motivated on long-term projects.
While The Blade has a dedicated section for business stories, it doesn’t hesitate to place those on the front page.
