Mashable seeks a tech reporter

Mashable is hiring an experienced and energetic tech reporter to cover all aspects of consumer technology, including news, product reviews, and service journalism.

The ideal candidate has a background in tech reporting and demonstrates a strong foundational knowledge of current events, trends, and gadgets. For example, the tech reporter isn’t just expected to know everything about the latest iPhone; they should know everything about all the iPhone models that came before, and be able to recount all the major bugs, breaches, and breakthroughs that got Apple to where it is today.

The Tech Reporter needs to be highly motivated. A natural self-starter with spot-on news judgment and a knack for original, grabby angles. A strong reporter who writes with style and voice, and is comfortable appearing on camera across Mashable’s multiple platforms. We’re looking for someone who is also passionate about the news and culture surrounding technology and the tech industry, and they should love breaking down complicated topics for a general audience.

The Tech Reporter will report to Mashable’s Tech Editor and will ideally be based in the New York City area.

You, our perfect hire, are…

  • A detail-oriented writer who can generate compelling story ideas and understands the magic of a good headline.
  • A natural self-starter and organized professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment.
  • A team player who values the success of the Mashable team.
  • A dynamic thinker, a natural problem-solver, and a driver of growth.
  • An experienced journalist who can verify facts, shape intriguing narratives, and find trustworthy sources.
  • A top-notch writer with a firm grasp of AP style and the ability to quickly turn around clean copy.
  • Well-versed in SEO and a variety of social media platforms, including Twitter, Facebook, and Snapchat.

The Day-to-Day

  • Review new products and software releases.
  • Write breaking news hits and longer features.
  • Collaborate with Tech Editor on daily priorities for editorial coverage.
  • Help track product releases and assist with managing a production calendar for reviews.
  • Promote Mashable content on Twitter and Facebook.
  • Help produce stories for Snapchat and other distributed platforms as needed.

Qualifications

  • Based in New York.
  • 5+ years writing for a media publication, with solid experience working for an online outlet.
  • Ability to multitask and meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Knowledge of the digital space and Mashable’s core coverage areas.
