The Times-News, the most prominent news organization in an eight-county region of southern Idaho known as the Magic Valley, is seeking an ambitious and enterprising reporter to build a beat around schools and education.
Idaho has, for years, lagged in education funding. That’s part of the story we need to tell. The other part is what’s going on inside our schools – around literacy, learning and engagement. We want to tell engaging stories about teachers and students, not simply write about policy and politics.
This full-time position in a digital-first newsroom will provide opportunities to write daily news, explore issues and trends that impact Idahoans, cover events, and craft profile stories on local people. Previous journalism experience is required. Recent college graduates and Spanish-speaking bilingual reporters are encouraged to apply.
We’re looking for reporter who will plug in quickly, invest in relationships, connect readers with what they can’t see themselves, and write with authority. The culture in our digital-first newsroom is highly important. We work, and win, as a team.
The largest city in the Magic Valley, with a population of about 56,000, Twin Falls is home to the region’s top medical facility (St. Luke’s Magic Valley) and one of the top junior colleges in the country (College of Southern Idaho). Retail shopping includes Costco, Target, Walmart, Fred Meyer and American Eagle, plus many others. Olive Garden, Texas Roadhouse, Applebee’s and Red Robin are among the chain restaurants.
Outdoor opportunities abound – from hiking and cycling to skiing and watersports, even BASE jumping from the Perrine Bridge, which spans a canyon about 500 feet above the Snake River. It’s the eighth highest bridge in the U.S. and the only legal destination nationally for year-round BASE jumping.
This is an exciting time to be part of change at the Times-News, part of the Lee Enterprises family of local newsrooms. The top editor joined this team late last year from USA TODAY to lead a vision built around serving community, connecting people, exploring issues, and celebrating successes. We’re already making progress. Join us and make a difference.
