Industry Dive seeks a retail reporter in DC

Industry Dive is seeking to hire a retail reporter in its Washington, DC office.

The Retail Reporter will regularly write stories that lead our coverage of the retail industry, from breaking news briefs to in-depth original stories that analyze the trends impacting retailers. You will monitor your beat, pitch stories, cultivate relationships with stakeholders and hunt down scoops. This position will report to a managing editor.

What can you bring to the table:

    • Proven, high-quality writing and reporting skills
    • Ability to interpret and analyze business concepts, industry trends, and major news stories
    • Ability to build relationships with important sources and report on complex subjects
    • Experience interpreting and analyzing business news, trends and concepts
    • Strong digital news knowledge
    • Deadline-oriented time management skills; ability to turn around stories on tight deadlines
    • Bachelor’s degree or better in journalism, English or similar field
    • 3-5 years experience in business reporting, preferably focused on the retail industry

Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
