WSJ seeks deputy Pro editor

The Wall Street Journal is looking for a news-savvy, entrepreneurial senior editor to join the newsroom team focused on content for professional audiences.

The Wall Street Journal’s Professional Products group is made up of a dozen products, each with its own team and content portfolio targeted at specific professional groups. The deputy will help oversee the coverage that is generated across the teams, pulling together deep analysis and insights that help professionals understand and navigate critical issues affecting their industries and their roles.

You should have business editing experience and also demonstrate an understanding and eagerness to delve into the various topics covered by our Professional teams, from corporate finance to cybersecurity to sustainability.

You must also have a sense for what differentiates Professional/specialized content and broader news, in order to ensure our professional teams are serving their readers with valuable and actionable content.

You will work with fellow Professional team members to help direct audience engagement and visuals. You will lead our efforts to build the team’s audience analytics and help focus our coverage.

You should be a strong editor who can deftly shape stories for professional audiences without resorting to jargon. You will help ensure that all Professional content meets the highest quality, adheres to WSJ standards and is publication-ready. This includes newsletter content, daily and feature stories and content produced by our professional teams at live events.

You must also be a strong communicator and good team player. You will work regularly with the Pro Products Editor and liaise with editors across the newsroom to coordinate coverage.

This position is based in New York and reports to the Professional Products Editor.
