Barron’s is seeking an experienced stock-picker who can take a deep dive into a company’s story and rigorously assess its forward-looking prospects, whether bullish or bearish. This writer must be savvy in understanding and interpreting key financials, peer comparisons, earnings reports, and the company story beyond the headlines. The analyst should be comfortable analyzing all types of stocks across styles, sectors, and sizes, including small caps.

A successful candidate will have experience packaging the thesis and its components into an easily digestible narrative for investors of all types, contextualizing each aspect of the story for readers familiar with the stock and those considering an investment. The finished stock pick will weave together all parts of the story, connecting the dots for investors and presenting them with an actionable bottom line, rating the stock as a buy or sell and including a price target.

The stock picker will actively engage with readers, in group chats and member calls to explain the thesis and methodology in more detail and address questions. This role requires routine follow-ups as well as special alerts based on market moves to keep readers up to date on the pick. It entails close collaboration with news writers, technical analysts, and other stock pickers, embedding heavy usage of tools and resources in the research phase to support investing ideas.

The role will be based in New York, though other locations will be considered on merit.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform rigorous analysis of stocks in an idea pipeline, producing at least one new pick per week
  • Closely follow movement of previous stock picks and provide ongoing updates per scheduled intervals and special alerts
  • Collaborate with colleagues and other departments to perform research, brainstorm on ideas and receive feedback
  • Write jargon-free, clear financial prose
  • Closely follow markets to determine which stocks may be of particular interest based on news, and which may be missed by Wall Street and readers

Qualifications:

  • Preferably three to five years of experience writing on investing platforms
  • Facility with SEO and audience strategies
  • Adept at finding unique angles off the news
  • A track record of writing unique, engaging stories
  • Proven track record in choosing successful stock picks, including small caps
  • Aptitude in crafting investing ideas that piece together financial data, fundamental analysis, sources, etc.
  • Ability to communicate with investors of all stripes in a clear and respectful way

You will:

  • Work well under pressure and with other members of the team
  • Pitch creative and compelling story ideas
  • Anticipate questions readers have about the stock pick and prepare to address their queries
  • Be responsive to the community in a timely fashion
