Connecticut Law Tribune seeks reporter

ALM, publisher of the Connecticut Law Tribune, the American Lawyer, the National Law Journal, and other professional publications, seeks an experienced reporter to cover litigation, with a focus on insurance matters, out of its Hartford, Connecticut office.

We’re looking for someone who can do a mix of local interest stories as well as track trends and highlight key battles across the country of interest to insurance professionals in Hartford and everywhere else.

Responsibilities:

  • Produce breaking news stories on tight deadlines for local, national and international audiences
  • Develop sources, establish and broaden a base of industry contacts
  • Produce enterprise articles, including features and investigative pieces, while juggling daily news commitments
  • Work well in a team environment with colleagues based around the world

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability to report and write for a business audience.
  • Ability to develop ongoing source relationships.
  • Good interviewing skills.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Able to work well under pressure in a fast paced environment.
  • Experience covering insurance and/or legal industries a major plus.

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
