BuzzFeed seeks UK business editor

BuzzFeed is looking for an experienced business journalist to shape BuzzFeed UK’s daily coverage and help build our team. This editor must have experience of producing hard-hitting, consumer-facing news stories, analysis and feature pieces that can stand out from mainstream business news coverage.

They should have a proven track record of bringing in the scoops that other news organizations have to follow. They should be well versed across business sectors – from retail and consumer technology to media and entertainment to hedge funds and the City – and have the ability to seamlessly transition between them.

She or he should have ideas about what BuzzFeed UK’s business coverage should look like, and be able to produce stories that are powerful, timely, accurate, well-reported and troublemaking. They should have a sense of humour and understand that business news can also be fun.

The position is based in our London office, and we offer competitive compensation and an employee stock option program.

Responsibilities:

  • Produce impactful, exclusive business stories for a general audience.
  • Respond quickly to major breaking news with original thoughts on how it should be covered.
  • Work with news editors and reporters to develop and deliver original reporting projects and feature pieces.
  • Recruit and manage specialist reporters covering key sectors.

Requirements:

  • At least 3-5 years experience covering business for a news organization.
  • A contacts book packed with the key players across UK business.
  • Strong interest in managing and editing other reporters; great reporters interested in editing for the first time are encouraged to apply
  • A genuine love for and excitement about the internet.
  • Established social media presence.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaborate with others.
  • Thorough understanding of the social web, copyright issues, web research, and strong story verification skill.
  • Desire to work at a place that revels in both the serious and the fun.

He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
