Business Insider is seeking a Leadership and Management chief correspondent to write about the people leading people, what they’re getting right, where they’re stumbling, and what our audience can learn from these actions.
The Role The ideal candidate has the ambition and authority to be an agenda-setting voice. This writer will have a wide view of the most-interesting developments in leadership in the news, and will have smart things to say about them on a frequent basis. We aren’t looking for an opinion writer but rather a person who will draw from years of reporting experience and constant fresh reporting to offer authoritative takes. Scoops are always welcome, insights expected.
As a chief correspondent, this person is a “go anywhere” journalist working across platforms, meaning they have the opportunity to represent BI at live events, in the broader media, on our web site, newsletters, and more. In addition to having a regular byline on the site, this correspondent will experiment with new formats and reach audiences wherever they are.
This position is based in our New York City HQ with an in-office requirement of three days a week, and is union-eligible.
Key Responsibilities:
- Pitch and write original pieces on leadership and management.
- Get scoops that make Business Insider a must-read destination
- Keep a deep Rolodex of business leaders to access the best insights possible about management strategies and moves.
- Constantly engage with sources, attend industry conferences, and stay ahead of emerging leadership trends.
- Collaborate with teams like video, live events, newsletters, and creative to deliver leadership and management coverage in new formats to new audiences
The Ideal Candidate Has:
- Deep sourcing among executives and managers.
- At least 15 years of experience in business journalism covering leadership and workplace transformations.
- Proven track record of breaking exclusive news and providing thought-provoking, analytical reporting.
- Strong writing ability featuring quick, accurate, and conversational copy
- Ability to work independently, manage deadlines, and be flexible with new ideas
- Demonstrated ability to excel at live journalism and across media broadly.
Salary & Benefits
- Base salary: $180,000 (dependent on skills, experience, and competencies)
