We are looking for a self-motivated reporter who is passionate about bringing business, econ, and tech journalism to a wider audience. Someone who can pitch a great story, report it out, and collaborate to execute great coverage and must-reads.
The reporter in this position will file breaking news, as well as news analysis and enterprise articles. They should be comfortable juggling a mixture of stories, working on tight deadlines, and pursuing original reporting on a fast-paced, fast-growing business news desk.
You will have:
· At least 3 years of full-time newsroom experience, preferably in a similar role, including full-time fellowships
· A digital-first mindset and voracious reading habits
· Interest in finance, markets, Internet culture, tech, and economics, and the desire to dig deeper into a beat
· The ability to concisely connect the dots between data and real-world events
· The ability to work quickly and collaboratively as part of a tight-knit, fast-paced team
Candidates should have…
· An interest in covering the biggest stories of the day
· A growing set of expert economist sources and financial experts who can help break down trends for readers
· A nose for identifying overlooked stories, or unusual and unexpected developments
· A devotion to detail and accuracy
· The ability to get up to speed and turn around copy quickly, and the metabolism to write multiple stories a day
· Experience using reader data to inform and inspire story choices
· Experience creating charts using a tool like Datawrapper
Fortune’s U.S. headquarters is in New York City. This role is based in the U.S., and candidates should have authorization to work in the U.S. Candidates based in the NYC area or near one of our other offices will be on a hybrid schedule, with the potential for an in-office requirement several days a week.
