Hugo Lowell

Wired executive editor Brian Barrett shared with staff the following announcement:

Hi all,

I’m delighted to share that Hugo Lowell will be joining WIRED as a senior correspondent on the politics desk.

Hugo comes to us from the Guardian, where he has broken major stories about the Trump administration and the president’s inner circle. In 2022, he won the National Press Club’s Sandy Hume Memorial Award for Excellence in Political Journalism for his definitive series of stories on Donald Trump’s attempts to stop the certification of Joe Biden as president the previous year. His reporting for that series led the House select committee investigation into the January 6 riot to issue subpoenas to Trump’s personal lawyers and opened new lines of inquiry.

Prior to the Guardian, Hugo covered sports politics and doping for various outlets, so he and Tim will have plenty to talk about. He’s also a regular guest on MS Now and CNN.

In addition to leading our Trump coverage, Hugo will be taking over our politics newsletter, delivering a scoop-driven, conversation-leading, essential read each week for the DC crowd and beyond.

Hugo is based in DC, and will report to Leah Feiger. He starts on April 27.
