Financial news company CNET has launched a new business news web site called BNET that’s aimed at business managers, according to a story in Mediaweek.
Reporter Mike Shields wrote, “Though BNET is entering a potentially saturated media segment, Stephen Howard-Sarin vp, products CNET Networks Business, believes that the wealth of business-related magazines and Web site fail to cover personal career issues in any depth.
“‘Business media is a large and healthy segment,’ he said. ‘So we looked at the category and said, ‘what are these people not getting?’ Business news is commoditized…But there is a gap when it comes to finding information that people can actually used to do better at their job. We want to help them solve problems at work.’
“In addition to providing information, BNET is also designed to serve as a networking community for managers, said Howard-Sarin.
“While BNET will borrow from several of CNET’s more successful media tactics, such as launching several planned original video series and podcasts, this site is aimed at a much different target audience, said Howard-Sarin, as CNET as a media company moves further and further away from being tech-geek dominant.”
