The Wall Street Journal is looking for reporters to cover two high-profile beats — one would cover GE, Honeywell and United Technologies, while the other would cover the economy.
For the first job, deputy managing editor Matt Murray wrote in an e-mail to the staff, “For an enterprising journalist, these companies offer an opening to a range of newsy fields, including health, defense, management, economics, politics and policy finance and China. The successful candidate will have the ability to dig in and break a lot of news on these companies, as well as step back and write thoughtfully on broader issues affecting U.S. companies and their role in the economy. The job is based in New York.”
For the second job, Murray, in a separate e-mail to the staff on Thursday, wrote, “The ideal candidate will break and write a lot of news, in print and online, bringing savvy analytical insight, as well as substantial, newsy features about the national and global economies. The job also offers a chance to work closely with colleagues in New York, Washington and bureaus from Beijing to Berlin. The topic is core to the paper, which has an insatiable appetite for this coverage. The successful applicant will have at least three years’ reporting experience and demonstrated understanding of economic concepts and analysis.”
