John Bussey, the bureau chief of the Wall Street Journal‘s Washington bureau, sent out the following announcement internally on Thursday afternoon:
“The Washington bureau is looking for a reporter to cover the intersection of Washington and the nation’s financial industry, focusing on the coming implementation of the biggest revamp of financial rules since the 1930s. The topic cuts to the heart of the changing relationship between the government and the private sector and provides a chance to tell the next chapter in the history of the financial crisis. The position will involve considerable reporting in federal agencies and on the Hill, and will include coverage of other, related policy initiatives by Congress and the White House.
“We’re seeking a reporter who is a proven news breaker, capable of digging into opaque government bureaucracies and the lobbying machinery of Wall Street firms and the financial industry in general, and who also has an eye for the grand narrative. If you’re interested in raising your hand, please let your bureau chief know, and then drop me a note.”
