Alli Pyrah has been hired by the Portland Business Journal to cover commercial real estate, replacing Wendi Culverwell.
Culverwell (pictured) writes, “After 10 years on the beat, I’m jumping to greener (ha ha!) pastures. As the new Sustainable Business Oregon reporter, I’ll be tracking the intersection of business and sustainability, as well as covering manufacturing and law. During my stint covering real estate, we’ve done 300 editions of the Real Estate Inc. daily newsletter — and survived one Great Recession. it’s time to hit the reset button and tackle some new topics.
“There’s a saying in journalism that once a reporter starts speaking the lingo of the beat, it’s time to move on. Well I’ve been blathering about cap rates, mezzanine debt, entitlements, pro formas, cap stacks, rejected leases, upsides (and downsides), loan-to-value spreads, public-private partnerships, product types and sweet spots for much too long now.
“It’s been a blast, but Alli brings some much-needed fresh eyes to the best beat in business journalism. I hope you’ll share all your great stories with her the way you have with me.
“Starting this week, I’m covering sustainability, a universe that intersects with real estate at many turns.”
