We’re happy to announce that Style’s Caitlin Dewey, founder of the popular blog The Intersect and an insightful writer on digital culture, will join Financial to cover food policy as part of the Wonkblog team.
Caitlin has written about digital culture for more than four years, drawing a massive audience to stories about the ways that the Internet connects and divides people. Her many memorable pieces have included an investigation into the infamous Twitter saga of “Zola,” a story about the friend-rating app Peeple, and a brilliant feature called “What was fake on the Internet.” Her riveting coverage of women facing harassment in the male-dominated world of online gaming prompted a Congressional inquiry. She won awards from the Society of Features Journalism and other organizations.
We are excited that Caitlin will now bring her curiosity, intelligence and engaging writing to food policy – a long-time passion. In fact, Caitlin, who almost moved to Italy a few years ago to study the slow-food movement at the University of Gastronomic Sciences, says that “if there’s anything I could talk about all day, it would certainly be food.” She wrote a memo brimming with ideas about food policy, economics and culture. She also has smart ideas about ways to reach our readers with alternative forms of journalism.
Caitlin, who graduated from Syracuse University, grew up in Buffalo and hopes to convince readers her native cuisine goes beyond “beef on weck” and chicken wings.
