Union to Bloomberg Industry: Please embrace remote work
The union that represents journalists at Bloomberg Industry Group sent the following to CEO Josh Eastright and chief human resources officer Christina Correira:
Dear Josh and Christina,
Today during bargaining, employees of INDG described what remote work means to them. Katie Devinney gave a presentation on the business value of remote work to INDG. Charlotte Tucker, Dan Walker, Brianna Jackson, Shira Stein, Tracey Adams, and Valerie Bauman gave powerful testimony about how remote work has radically improved their lives.
The global Coronavirus pandemic will be two years old in March. Some of us still remember gathering belongings from our desks and saying farewell to co-workers during that profoundly transformative March. Many of us were hired in the midst of the pandemic and have never known an “office culture” at INDG other than one premised primarily on remote work.
In the face of the incredible headwinds of the global pandemic, INDG employees pioneered new spaces of virtual collaboration. We adapted, as did our best competitors in the information and technology sectors, and we thrived.
As you observed yourself in your September 29, 2021 message to the organization, “our year-to-date performance is bordering on historic – our revenues are growing at rates our company hasn’t seen in decades, and we’re renewing customers at unprecedented rates.”
WE DID ALL THAT WHILE WORKING REMOTELY!
Remote work has brought us together in new ways that have promoted learning and innovation. Far from depriving us of resources to do our jobs, it’s enabled us to explore and cultivate new tools and spaces that make collaboration smarter, more efficient, more encompassing, and more inclusive.
Our knowledge, skills, talent, and adaptability are in high demand in sectors that have come increasingly to embrace remote work during the past two years.
This is why it’s incredibly important for INDG to EMBRACE REMOTE WORK.
If we can do our jobs remotely, we should be permitted to do our jobs remotely.
We ask that INDG take this issue seriously and reach a meaningful bargain with the Guild protecting remote work.
