The Allentown Morning Call joins the growing list of newspapers that will begin selling advertising on the front page of its business and real estate sections, according to a story in Tuesday’s paper.

Other newspapers that have made similar decisions include the New York Times, the Boston Globe and the Philadelphia Inquirer. The Wall Street Journal is now selling ads on the front page of the paper.

Reporter Sam Kennedy wrote, “The Morning Call’s ads will be contained within a 3-inch strip across the bottom of the section fronts, and within a 2-inch strip across the Merge cover.

“They will run on the Sports section on Sunday, Monday, Friday and Saturday; on the Business section on Thursday, Friday and Sunday; and on the Real Estate section on Sunday. All ads will be in full color.

“Morning Call spokeswoman Vicki Mayk said the newspaper reserves the right to refuse ads that do not meet its standards for section fronts. For example, the ads should emphasize brand, not specific prices, she said. So far, sales of the ads have been robust, Mayk said. Since last week, when they were first offered, more than 100 have been sold.”
